About Matthew Ridding | Clinical Massage Therapist
Hello, I'm Matthew Ridding, a Therapeutic Massage Therapist specialising in helping people reduce muscular pain, improve movement and feel more comfortable in their everyday lives.
Many of the people I work with come to me because they're tired of living with ongoing aches, persistent muscle tension or recurring pain that never seems to fully go away. Whether your discomfort has developed through work, exercise, daily life or simply built up over time, my goal is to understand what's contributing to the problem and provide treatment that's tailored specifically to you.
I believe massage should never be a "one size fits all" experience. Every body is different, which is why every treatment I provide is personalised around your individual needs.
A Personalised Approach to Therapeutic Massage
I believe effective massage therapy starts with understanding the person, not just the area where discomfort is felt.
Every body is different. The way we move, work, exercise, manage stress, and recover from previous injuries can all influence how our muscles and tissues function. This is why I take a personalised approach to treatment, adapting each session around your individual needs, goals, and how your body responds.
Whether you are experiencing muscular pain, stiffness, restricted movement, ongoing tension, or simply want to maintain better mobility, my aim is to help you feel more comfortable in your body and move more freely.
Rather than applying the same routine to every client, I focus on understanding the factors that may be contributing to your symptoms and selecting the most appropriate approach for you.
My Training and Approach
I trained at Jing - School of Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy, where I developed an approach based on assessment, clinical reasoning, and understanding the body as a connected system.
The Jing approach focuses on more than simply learning massage techniques. It emphasises understanding how the body, identifying patterns of muscular tension and restriction, and adapting treatment to suit each individual client.
This approach strongly influences the way I work today.
I believe massage therapy should be thoughtful and purposeful. The goal is not simply to apply deeper pressure or work harder, but to understand what your body needs and provide treatment that supports better movement and comfort.
Understanding the Body as a Whole
The body works as a connected system, with muscles, connective tissues, joints, and movement patterns all influencing each other.
For example, tension in one area may contribute to changes elsewhere in the body. Restrictions around the hips and lower back may influence movement through the legs, while tension around the shoulders and upper back may affect comfort through the neck and upper body.
By looking beyond the immediate area of discomfort, I aim to understand the wider patterns that may be contributing to tension, stiffness, or restricted movement.
Your Treatment Approach
Your treatment begins with a consultation to understand your symptoms, lifestyle, activities, previous injuries, and what you would like to achieve.
Where appropriate, movement and range of motion may be assessed to gain a better understanding of how your body is functioning. This helps create a treatment approach that is specific to you rather than following a standard routine.
Depending on your needs, treatment may incorporate techniques such as Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Therapeutic Stretching, and Relaxation Massage.
The aim is always to provide appropriate treatment that helps reduce muscular tension, improve movement, and support your individual goals.
My Philosophy
I believe massage therapy is most effective when it combines knowledge, skilled touch, and personalised care.
Whether you are seeking support with ongoing muscular discomfort, recovery from physical demands, or simply want to look after your body, my focus is to provide a professional and supportive treatment experience.
By taking the time to understand your body and your goals, I aim to help you move with greater ease and feel more comfortable in everyday life.
